Alysha gets CWA cash
Alysha Knight is the lucky recipient of the Country Women’s Association’s education grant.
Ms Knight headed off to Monash University in Melbourne last Thursday to study a double degree in law and arts.
After hearing about the group’s grant through her grandmother Joy Knight, a member of Jerilderie CWA, Alysha sent in her application.
‘‘I was pretty excited when I saw the cheque in the mail and that I was accepted,’’ she said.
‘‘It can go towards anything in your education, which will be a help I’m sure.’’
The $500 grant came from a Sydney CWA branch and was the first scholarship of its kind presented in Jerilderie.
Mrs Knight was thrilled to be there for her granddaughter’s presentation, which she said added to the list of achievements from the Jerilderie branch this year.
‘‘Alysha was our first re- cipient so it’s kind of a big deal for our branch,’’ Mrs Knight said.
‘‘In this year already we’ve sent off 20 quilts to Monash Hospital and lots of premature baby bonnets to the GV in Shepparton.’’
The group also work for the two local schools and the Australia Day committee.
An upcoming event for the group includes a Jane McGrath Foundation day on March 30.
Nurses from the McGrath breast cancer foundation will attend to provide information.
