Berrigan footy:

-

Berrigan reserves are ruing a narrow loss after going down by 11 points to the Deni Rovers in the Picola League on Saturday.

The Saints went in at half time up by three points but could not hang on to their lead by the time the siren sounded at Memorial Park.

Connor Thornton was strong up forward with three goals and received the mug for best on ground, narrowly edging out his father Craig who pulled the boots back on after losing a bet during the week.

Dan Hustwayte was again good in the ruck while usual suspects Noel Baxter and James Ware were strong around the contests all day.

Andrew Hawkins had the coach worried after a late arrival but let his football do the talking, taking plenty of big grabs around the ground.

Final score, Deni Rovers 6.8 Berrigan 4.9 (33).

It was a great display of football by the Saints thirds, becoming the first team to (44) to defeat Deni Rovers since the 2014 grand final.

It was a whole team effort with everyone doing their job on the field.

Tom Whelan, Fraser Haintz and Ben Fox were superb along with Coleby HellyerMaud, Riley Dempster and Bailey Thornton.

Mention needs to be made to the Deni team for giving some players to us who were also very handy on the field, it was appreciated by the young Saints.

Final score, Berrigan 11.6 (72) to Deni Rovers 6.6 (42).

The fourths were up against a much bigger and faster side, but as always our boys gave their best with Darcy Pyle again being an influence on the field as he hunted the ball like a hungry leopard.

Nick Arnold, James Curtin, Hamish Cameron, Caleb Thornton and John O’Neill were also the best and played like true gladiators.

Final score, Deni Rovers 16.10 (106) to Berrigan no score.

This week Berrigan host Mathoura.
