A special education
Cobram and District Specialist School was established in 1978 in Cobram.
The school’s facilities include five classrooms, an art/music room, sensory room, a multipurpose facility and kitchen.
Its external facilities include playground equipment, an asphalt open play area and a sensory garden.
We were fortunate to receive a grant last year, which enabled us to build a new junior playground exclusively for our younger students.
Senior students are able to access Cobram Primary School’s oval at lunchtimes.
The school’s vision is to provide positive learning experiences, which allow students to achieve their optimum level of academic, social, emotional and physical independence.
The school aims to ensure that its values of ‘Respect, Safety and Try Your Best’ underpin all activities of the school.
The school has a whole-school approach to behaviour management through the implementation of Positive Behaviour Support.
Each child has an Individual Learning Plan, which is based on the goals set in the Student Support Group meetings.
Our small environment offers students a unique learning experience with extremely skilled and experienced staff.
We are able to offer programs including bike education, swimming, Riding for the Disabled and community access all year round so students have the chance to succeed in these areas.
The school’s curriculum supports achievement at different stages of learning as defined by the Victorian Curriculum.
Other key components of the school’s program include specialist classes in art, physical education, Bluearth, dance and drama.
The senior unit is divided into VCAL and Independent Living Skills grogram.
The junior students have a sleepover at school.
Our middle years students are attending Campaspe Downs Camp, Kyneton this year and our VCAL students are spending a week at DOXA camp in Melbourne, while our other senior group is attending the Licola Wilderness Village as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
We also offer Leos club, yachting, open water learning and the Sporting in Schools program.
