Stu­dents show­case ‘Ad­ven­tures’

To­day at 10.30am and tonight at 7pm St Columba’s school will present this year’s pro­duc­tion ‘The Ad­ven­tures of Cap­tain Star­blaster’.

It is di­rected by He­len Dickie, who is very happy with the chil­dren’s ef­forts and is look­ing for­ward to show­cas­ing the stu­dents’ hard work and bring­ing this pro­duc­tion to­gether.

The com­mu­nity is most wel­come to come along and en­joy this won­der­ful tal­ent in this town. En­try is free.

The Ama­roo Aux­il­iary would like to thank every­one for their sup­port of the raf­fle for the beau­ti­fully made and do­nated quilt by Dawn Pyle and Linda Kay.

The lucky win­ner was Ron­nie Pea­cock of Ama­roo.

Ber­ri­gan Coun­try Women’s As­so­ci­a­tion held its In­ter­na­tional Day on Thurs­day, Au­gust 14. Chil­dren from St Columba’s and the pri­mary school showed a pow­er­point pre­sen­ta­tion on ‘Life in Nepal’.

CWA mem­bers then pro­vided a taste of Nepalese food for the chil­dren be­fore they re­turned to school, at which time mem­bers shared a Nepalese style lunch.

Thanks to the com­mu­nity for their sup­port for the CWA an­nual Fa­ther’s Day stall last Fri­day. The raf­fle was won by Terese Gor­man.

Next month is CWA Aware­ness Week and plans are un­der­way for a walk in the ‘Tank Pad­dock’, fol­lowed by morn­ing tea, on Thurs­day, Septem­ber 25.

It will cost you a gold coin do­na­tion, with pro­ceeds go­ing to As­so­ci­ated Coun­try Women of the World.

Last Sun­day the Ber­ri­gan Cricket Club held their first train­ing drill.

A pos­i­tive num­ber of peo­ple turned up ready to take on the sea­son.

The next ses­sion will be next Sun­day at 11am with a free bar­be­cue to fol­low.

Fin­ley High School prin­ci­pal He­len McRae will be host­ing a meet­ing at the pub­lic school on Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 13 to talk with cur­rent and fu­ture par­ents of stu­dents of Fin­ley High School about the fu­ture di­rec­tion of Fin­ley High School for the next three years.

Fin­ley High School en­cour­ages par­ents and par­ents of stu­dents in Years 4, 5 and 6 from both schools to at­tend this meet­ing and to have a voice in the fu­ture di­rec­tion of the school.

On Septem­ber 11, Bi­ralee Preschool and Cen­tacare South West NSW are host­ing a free sem­i­nar on ‘Mak­ing Par­ent­ing a Lit­tle Eas­ier’.

This pre­sen­ta­tion will pro­vide you with flex­i­ble al­ter­na­tives you can draw upon to teach new skills at home, help es­tab­lish daily rou­tines, and ef­fec­tively re­spond to these chal­leng­ing sit­u­a­tions. Guest speaker is Dan Petro. The evening starts at 6.30pm and book­ings and fur­ther in­for­ma­tion can be di­rected to Jes­sica at Bi­ralee Preschool on 5883 1609.

Last Sun­day the Ber­ri­gan Foot­ball and Net­ball Club hosted the pre­lim­i­nary fi­nals for the Pi­cola North West.

In per­fect weather con­di­tions the ground and sur­rounds were a credit to the com­mit­tee who have worked hard to main­tain the stan­dard that we are used to.

A huge crowd came through the gates, and the com­mit­tee wish to thank the com­mu­nity who helped on the day, made cakes, slices and worked in the can­teen.

Tonight the Ber­ri­gan Race Club will be hold­ing its An­nual Gen­eral Meet­ing at 7.30pm at the Ber­ri­gan Spor­ties. All are wel­come to at­tend.

The Ber­ri­gan Foot­ball and Net­ball Club will be hold­ing its Ju­nior Pre­sen­ta­tion Night on Fri­day, Septem­ber 15.

This night the club will con­duct the vote count for net­ball un­der 13 and 15s and foot­ball’s thirds and fourths.

A meal will be pro­vided and fam­i­lies are asked to please bring a salad.

The se­nior vote count for will be held Satur­day, Septem­ber 16.

Tick­ets are $40 per head which in­cludes a two course meal and en­ter­tain­ment.

All wel­come for a won­der­ful night to cel­e­brate the year.

The Ber­ri­gan Ten­nis Club held its AGM last week.

The com­mit­tee re­mains un­changed: Chris Cameron as pres­i­dent, Steve Parr as vice pres­i­dent, Louise Hatty as sec­re­tary and Carolyn Alexan­der as trea­surer. Night ten­nis starts Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 10. Any in­ter­ested play­ers can con­tact Carolyn Alexan­der on 0427 668 062.

The United Hospi­tal Aux­il­liary of Ber­ri­gan held its Au­gust meet­ing last Mon­day where they ac­knowl­edged the 30 years of ser­vice of Elaine Hawkins. Our con­grat­u­la­tions go out to you. The aux­il­iary will be hold­ing a street stall on Septem­ber 15 to raise funds to buy five new mat­tresses for the hospi­tal beds and a spe­cial long chair.

The an­nual Joan Davis Rose show is de­ferred this year, for a pos­si­ble au­tumn 2018 show.
