Rovers knock Redeyes out

Southern Riverina news - - SPORT -

The Deni Rovers secured a third straight Picola League A grade grand final appearance against Tocumwal, after an emphatic 21-goal win over Blighty in Berrigan on Saturday.

The Roos started off strong in the preliminary final and never looked back, leading 19 to 10 at quarter time.

Rovers shooters Lucy Howard and Chrissy Hurst rarely missed while their teammates Sarah Purtill and Keara Norris’ delivery into the ring and speed in the midcourt made it even easier for the goalies.

Powerhouse defence by Nat Henthorn, Bree Collins and Jackie Thorpe saw the Rovers able to control Blighty’s shooters throughout the contest.

The Redeyes were best served by midcourters Demi Blake and Sophie Lostroh, while the ever consistent Rhiannon Maxwell was a strong performer in goal attack.

Blighty had a tremendous season, finishing third on the ladder with 12 wins and four losses.

Final score, Deni Rovers 65 to Blighty 44.
