Mother, son medal winners

One of the special stories to come out of Saturday’s Picola League grand final day was Tocumwal A grade player Jacq Davis and her son Hayden both winning a premiership medal.

Hayden was the first of the two to salute, playing as a part of the Tocumwal fourths football premiership side.

Jacq prepared for her grand final in the afternoon by watching Hayden play in the morning.

She said it was great for both to win on the same day.

‘‘I’ve won a few in my time so it was nice to share the moment with Hayden,’’ she said.

‘‘I was more emotional when he won his medal, probably because when it’s the first premiership it’s really special.

‘‘Hayden played really well, he kicked a goal and played his part.

‘‘He has really enjoyed his time playing under Bob Bourke; he has so much respect for him.

‘‘I personally could have played better. I’m probably coming to the end of my A grade career, so if that was my last then it was extra special to win it on the same day as Hayden.’’
