B straight through

Finley win earns spot in September 23 grand final

Southern Riverina news - - LOCAL CLASSIES -

Finley’s B grade side has won its way through to the Murray League grand finals to be played at Rumbalara on September 23.

Their challenger will be decided in the semi final being played this Saturday in Cobram.

For the first time this year, B grade was able to field a squad of nine players.

There were no passengers on the day, everyone completed their role to give Finley a come-from-behind victory over Tongala. The margin was just three goals. Tongala is an outstanding team and under very difficult circumstances they were their to represent their club on the day.

Bronte Russell had her game of the season in the ring, earning her the Bowling Club Award.

Savannah Wilson was exceptional in Wing Defence & was awarded the Shoex Award.

In C reserve, Finley defeated a third placed Deniliquin Rams, 38 to 35.

The Cats came out firing from the start to maintain a 3-5 goal lead after each quarter.

Lori Parmley, Brittany Scott, Lauren Clarke and Georgie Sloane worked tirelessly all game to bring the ball down to our ever consistent shooters Kaz Donkin and Sally Bickerton who never disappoint with their accuracy.

Emma Evans and Bridget Tegart worked a tight defense turning the ball over time and time again stopping Deni from scoring.

The girls fought till the end and got up by three by the final bell. C grade has done it again! The girls are on the climb, only one win away from the big dance.

All the girls had a fantastic game, and it’s good to see that the more we practice at training the more it pays off.
