Wells leads in Murrumbidgee
The progressive vote count for Murrumbidgee Council’s Murrumbidgee ward yesterday had former Murrumbidgee Shire councillor Phillip Wells at the top of tally.
With 602 of a possible 892 votes counted at the time of going to print yesterday, Mr Wells held 32.6 per cent of the vote with 192 first preferences.
Not too far behind was fellow former councillor Robert Curphey, who had 26.32 per cent of the vote yesterday (155 votes) and then Gavin Gilbert with 101, Paul Goodsall with 73, Gordon Beaumont with 41 and Allan Strachan with 27.
The results will determine the final three councillors, with no election in Jerilderie and Murrumbidgee East wards. Ruth McRae, Gaila Smith and Faith Bryce, and Austin Evans, Robert Black and Christine Chirgwin are automatically elected.
