House­wives host Satur­day cook off

The ‘Hoon­ing House­wives’ have teamed up again with Jer­ilderie Apex to host an­other Camp Oven Cook Off, to be held this Satur­day, October 7, at the Mini Rail.

Sha­ree Wilkin­son and Gayle Fer­gu­son are the ‘Hoon­ing House­wives’, a team in the Rive­rina Red­neck Rally to raise money for Coun­try Hope, which pro­vides sup­port to fam­i­lies with chil­dren who have life threat­en­ing ill­nesses.

This year, with no chance of flood­ing, the trains will be run­ning, there will be a jump­ing cas­tle for the kids, and face paint­ing and games.

Apex will be man­ning a bar, there will be plenty of great raf­fle prizes, and live en­ter­tain­ment.

Ac­tiv­i­ties and en­ter­tain­ment start around 4pm.

If you would like to take part in the cook off, it will be $10 per camp oven, and $5 to sam­ple a plate of the end re­sult.

Jer­ilderie peo­ple were deeply sad­dened to learn of the death of much re­spected former mayor of Jer­ilderie Terry Ho­gan last Wed­nes­day.

Terry’s fu­neral is in Coleam­bally to­day at 11am at the Catholic Church.

Sym­pa­thy is ex­tended to Terry’s wife Heather, their three sons and their fam­i­lies.

Sym­pa­thy is ex­tended to Leti­tia DiLullo and her fam­ily fol­low­ing the re­cent death of their mother and grand­mother, El­iz­a­beth Mont­gomery.

A grave­side ser­vice was held at the Jer­ilderie ceme­tery on Satur­day morn­ing.

Former prin­ci­pal of St Joseph’s Catholic School, Lind­say Dean, died on Septem­ber 25 in Syd­ney, after a short ill­ness. Lind­say was prin­ci­pal at St Joseph’s school dur­ing the 1980s.

His fu­neral was at the Catholic Church in Nar­romine on Tues­day.

Tidy Towns mem­bers will meet to­mor­row night, October 5, at the Luke Park of­fice from 6pm to 7pm.

New mem­bers are al­ways wel­come.

At the re­cent monthly meet­ing of the Jer­ilderie Hospi­tal Aux­il­iary, two mem­bers who were un­avail­able for the pre­sen­ta­tions made at the Au­gust AGM were pre­sented with Years of Ser­vice badges.

Vice pres­i­dent Lucy Sweeney pre­sented pres­i­dent Nancy Locke with a 20 year badge, and Betty Sweeney with a 30 year badge.

Mem­bers of the Jer­ilderie Hospi­tal Aux­il­iary are gear­ing up for a busy October.

There’s a Blumes Fash­ion show­ing on Thurs­day, October 12, fol­lowed by the in­au­gu­ral Nov­elty Golf and Bowls day on Sun­day, October 15.

Aux­il­iary mem­bers are hop­ing there will be a big turn out on the 15th, for a fam­ily day of golf and bowls to raise funds for our lo­cal health ser­vice. Every­one is in­vited to par­tic­i­pate. Golf, in the form of a 9-hole Am­brose, will start at 9am, with the bowls start­ing about noon.

There will be ex­perts in both golf and bowls to help you if you feel a lit­tle ap­pre­hen­sive.

Teams and in­di­vid­u­als should reg­is­ter with the Sports Club on 5886 1445 by Fri­day, October 13.

If you don’t fancy your chances at golf, come along and join in the fun bowls after lunch.

Cost for golf is $30 a team of four. Bowls will be $5 per per­son.

There are lots of good tro­phies to be won, and a con­tin­u­ous raf­fle will pro­vide ex­tra in­ter­est through­out the day, with some in­ter­est­ing prizes.

A per­pet­ual tro­phy for the win­ning golfer has been kindly do­nated by Ross and Irene Wells of Wil­lan­dra Stud, with an ex­tra $100 for the win­ner.

The Blumes event, fea­tur­ing spring/sum­mer wear, will be at the Com­mu­nity Cen­tre and be­gin with morn­ing tea at 10am.

En­try is $5, and there will be a lucky door prize and raf­fle.

Win­ners of the Catholic Women’s League raf­fle drawn on Fri­day, Septem­ber 29, were Vicki Hardie ($100 IGA gift card) and Robert Tin­kler ($30 phar­macy voucher).

Thanks to every­one who sup­ported the stall on the day.

The Catholic Women’s League’s AGM will be held to­mor­row at the Colony Inn Ho­tel, at 11am, with lunch to fol­low.

Mem­bers and non-mem­bers are most wel­come.

Jer­ilderie Ten­nis Club’s Pre-har­vest Fri­day night ten­nis com­pe­ti­tion will start on Fri­day, October 13, and will run for four to six weeks.

It was a busy day at the home of Chris El­lis on Satur­day.

Lots of friends and fam­ily gath­ered for lunch to cel­e­brate daugh­ter Sasha’s 40th birth­day, which was ac­tu­ally on Septem­ber 26.

Sasha and her fam­ily trav­elled from Syd­ney on Thurs­day.

Happy birth­day to Sasha, who re­ceived a special present from her mother — a Ros Lock­hart flo­ral paint­ing called ‘Jar of Mem­ory’.

Best wishes to Wynetta Pur­cell who cel­e­brated her birth­day on Fri­day, Septem­ber 29.

In its 114th year the Jer­ilderie Foot­ball Club now has its own Hall of Fame, with the first in­duc­tions car­ried out at the re­cent end of year vote count/pre­sen­ta­tion night held in the Civic Hall.

At the in­au­gu­ral in­duc­tion, Tony Her­rick was hon­oured for out­stand­ing con­tri­bu­tion to the club as ad­min­is­tra­tor, sec­re­tary, trea­surer, and vol­un­teer.

A post­hu­mous in­ductee was Neil McKin­non, as past player and ad­min­is­tra­tor. The award was ac­cepted by two of his daugh­ters.

John Bryce was the third in­ductee, nom­i­nated as a player and ad­min­is­tra­tor.

With the evenings get­ting longer and the weather at last be­com­ing warmer, it might be a won­der­ful op­por­tu­nity to take part in the Bil­l­abong Yanco ‘Wet­land Won­ders’ evening at the Ian Gil­bert room on Tues­day, October 10.

This evening will pro­vide in­for­ma­tion about the im­por­tant plants, an­i­mals and ser­vices pro­vided by the wet­lands of the Bil­l­abong, Yanco and Colombo creeks.

There will be a pre­sen­ta­tion by wet­land ex­perts on frogs, fish, bugs and veg­e­ta­tion; and you can go on a Wet­land Frog Walk and Talk, and learn how to iden­tify frogs and tad­poles.

The evening will start at 5.30pm with a free com­mu­nity bar­be­cue and re­fresh­ments, fol­lowed by the pre­sen­ta­tion at 6.30pm, and the walk at 7.30pm. It will fin­ish at 8.30pm.

The Jer­ilderie Fish­ing Club will hold its an­nual Kids’ Fish­ing Com­pe­ti­tion at Lake Jer­ilderie, on Sun­day, October 15, start­ing at 11am. Bring your own gear and bait. There will be a free bar­be­cue, lots of prizes for var­i­ous types of fish caught, and a cast­ing com­pe­ti­tion.

The day will end at 1pm with pre­sen­ta­tion of prizes.
