Outback Golf success
Finley Following last year’s wet weather abandonment the 17th Outback Golf Challenge hit-off in perfect conditions for the Mixed 4BBB event played at the Finley, Jerilderie and Berrigan Golf Club’s over the long weekend.
The weekend saw 44 couples from various Golf clubs in South Australia, Victoria and NSW as well as local area clubs take part.
On Saturday, Finley hosted the first day of the Dawmac Industries 2017 Outback Golf Challenge and it was Martin Piggin and Jenni Corcoran (Finley) with 47 stableford points who claimed the day’s winner’s trophy.
Bill and Kath Williams (Jerilderie) with 45 points were runners-up and Barry Fahey and Joanne Dean (Finley) after a three-way countback on 44 points finished in third place.
Men’s NTP on the 3rd was Brian Wilson (Jerilderie) and the 11th was John Bakker (Mooroopna).
Ladies NTP on the 11th was Maree Ciavarella (Rich River) and on the 18th Jan Alborough (Stawell).
Balls went to 13 couples with 39 points or better while the NAGA trophy was awarded to Garry and Pam Jolly (Barwon Valley) .
Sunday saw the second round played at Jerilderie and it was John and Gail Arthur (Corowa) with 45 points who were the day’s winners.
Ken Barnes (Victor Harbour SA) and Maree Ryan (Berrigan) with 44 points were runners-up and Bill and Kath Williams (Jerilderie) with 43 points finished in third place.
The third and final day moved to Berrigan on Monday when Don and Christine Perrett (Leongatha) with 46 points were the day’s winners.
After a countback on 45 points it was Peter and Elaine Zotti ( Wagga) who were runners up and Ken Barnes (Victor Harbour SA) and Maree Ryan (Berrigan) finished in third place.
After the three days, outright winners with 130 Points were Bill and Kath Williams and second were Ken Barnes and Maree Ryan with 127.
After countback on 125 Points, third place went to Don and Christine Perrett and in fourth were Ross Lacy and Betty Cranston (Cobram).
Plans are already under way for the 2018 Outback Golf Challenge
On Wednesday’s Deni Carpet Care men’s stableford event at Finley Golf Club, Billy Smith slipped in with 41 points to claim the voucher.
Gerry Lawson (Jerilderie) took NTP on the 18th and balls went to Trevor McCaw (39), Martin Cruickshank (39), Mark O’Brien (36), Barry Fahey (38) and Rand Wilson (38).
Andrew Higgins took the Matt Daniel Plumbing NAGA trophy.
Rand Wilson with 29 net stepped into the winner’s circle when stroke was played at the last nine-hole comp for the winter season on Thursday.

Sunday was the Finley Flooring Xtra stableford day, seeing Paul Pinnuck with 40 points take the men’s trophy. Ladies’ winner was Julie O’Brien with 36 points.
NTP on the 18th was Andrew Harding and on the 13th Jenni Corcoran.
Balls went to Mark O’Brien (38), Doug Smith (37), Billy Smith (37), Jason Pyle (36), Margaret Lemsing (35) and Anne Harding (35).
Andrew Harding and Sue Simpson received NAGA Trophies.
The final day of a long weekend of golf on Monday was the WD & AJ Lang stroke event and it was Rand Wilson with 69 net who took the men’s trophy.
Mary Polkinghorne’s 67 net gave her the ladies trophy and her 29 putts the ladies putting trophy.
NTP on the 18th went to Trevor McCaw and balls went to Trevor McCaw (71), Sue Simpson (71), Barry Fahey (72) and Kath Klemke (72). Ray Hehir claimed the NAGA Trophy.
During the month of October by just playing in the Thursday 9 Hole Competi- tion golfers become eligible to win a ‘money can’t buy’ trip to the 2017 Emirates Australian Open.
There will be no golf at Finley at the weekend as the course will be closed for the greens to be cored.

Tocumwal On Wednesday we had 100 men playing two-man aggregate stableford that saw Division One going to Colin Mawdsley and Mick Keen with 78 points followed by Ian McFarlane and Paul Olsen 75.
NTPs went to Brent Huckel 2nd, Michael Cooper 8th, Kenneth McCormack Pro Pin $100.
Friday was the first day of our Spring Tournament that saw 69 ladies playing stableford with Division One going to Helen Pascoe (Buninyong GC) 35 points, runner-up went to Claire Perston 34. Division Two was won by Enid Bain (Finley GC) on 38 points, followed by Lee Andrews (Lang Lang GC) 36. Nola Whitford was the Division Three winner with 34 points on countback from Gayle Edwards.
NTPs went to Pauline Grooby 2nd, Christine Wilson 17th.
In a field of 73 men, Ross Sidebottom took out Division One with 41 points followed by Nick Dehey 39. Division Two went to Greg Cooney (Kooringal GC) with 45 points and runner-up was Ivan Talan (Commercial Resort) 35. Division Three went to Stephen Denison on 44 points with Shane Fouls (Rossdale GC) taking runner-up with 38. NTPs went to Greg Cooney 2nd, David Waters 17th.
Saturday was Mixed 4BBB Par that saw C. Wilson and R. Wilson (Box Hill GC) taking first place with 9-up on countback from Foots and Howe (Rossdale GC).
Sunday was 4BBB stableford saw Lewis and Barnes taking first place with 44 points followed by Baensch and Pegg who had 43.
Men’s 4BBB winners were Gibbs and Freestone on 43 points followed by Jim Williams and Shane Halloran who had 42 pts on countback.
