Sienna shines at state
The NSW Primary School Athletics carnival was held on Wednesday and Thursday at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre.
More than 2500 primary education students from across the state compete at this event and six students from four local schools represented the Southern Riverina.
Finley Public School’s Sienna Bourke competed in three events and best performed in the 11 year-old girls high jump finishing 7th with a 1.4 metre jump.
Sienna also competed in the 800m and long jump, finishing 28th and 32nd respectively.
Also representing Finley Public School were Josie Coombs, Jai Sneddon and Jasmine Bourke.
Josie finished 31st in the 200m 11yo girls preliminary running a time of 30.70 seconds, Jai ran a fast 15.81 seconds in the 9yo boys 100 preliminary however finished 39th and Jasmine threw 18.62 metres in the 11yo girls discus finishing 33rd.
Lucy Simpson was the only representative from Jerilderie, however certainly put in her best efforts.
Lucy ran a time of 14.60 seconds in the 12yo girls 100m preliminary, finishing 36th and jumped 1.25 metres in the 12-13yo girls senior high jump, finishing 35th.
Tocumwal Public School’s Mac Eddy came 20th in the 11yo boys shot put throwing a respectable 10.32 metres and Sacred Heart’s Kate Purtill fell just shy of her personal best of 19.7 metres with a 19.0 metre throw, finishing 27th in the 8-10yo junior girls.
No students from Berrigan competed at the event.
