Stu­dents pause for Re­mem­brance Day

Ber­ri­gan Public and St Columba’s School stu­dents joined to­gether to com­mem­o­rate Re­mem­brance Day on Mon­day.

Stu­dents in Year 5 and 6 have been study­ing lo­cal iden­ti­ties who served at war. Among those names were Dou­glas Cameron, Wil­lis Way, Clar­rie Thorn­ton, Maxwell Pyle, VJ Rock­liff, Herbert Brown, Al­bert Madill, Ray Bur­wood, Thomas Dal­gliesh, Ted Pow­ell and Henry Martin.

The Re­mem­brance Day ser­vice was or­gan­ised by the CWA com­mit­tee with the as­sis­tance of the RSL Sub-Branch.

A won­der­ful turnout by the com­mu­nity who en­joyed the stu­dents’ public speak­ing. A beau­ti­ful morn­ing tea was then served at the CWA rooms.

Ber­ri­gan Lo­cal Health Ad­vi­sory Com­mit­tee in­vites res­i­dents of Ber­ri­gan to a bar­be­cue to learn about Can­cer Screen­ing – which just may save your life.

The evening is on Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 22 from 6pm.

Melissa Nixon from the Can­cer Coun­cil will talk about free can­cer screen­ing that is avail­able to res­i­dents.

Please RSVP to the Ber­ri­gan Phar­macy by Novem­ber 20 for cater­ing pur­poses.

This func­tion is an ini­tia­tive of Ber­ri­gan LHAC in part­ner­ship with Mur­rumbidgee Pri­mary Health Net­work, Mur­rumbidgee Lo­cal Health Dis­trict and Can­cer Coun­cil of NSW.

On Fri­day, De­cem­ber 1 the Ber­ri­gan Dis­trict Devel­op­ment As­so­ci­a­tion will hold the Ber­ri­gan Night Mar­ket Night.

There will be plenty of en­ter­tain­ment for ev­ery­one, the Red Cross Fash­ion Extravaganza, food and fash­ion, and fresh lo­cal food, and live mu­sic from Damien Tay­lor. Chanter St comes alive from 6pm till late. Please note that Chanter St will be closed to traf­fic and the al­co­hol ban is lifted from 5pm–10pm.

Ev­ery Fri­day the Ber­ri­gan Com­mu­nity Golf and Bowls Club will be run­ning a Cana­dian Four­somes for peo­ple look­ing to have a go at golf and chil­dren wish­ing to play. Chil­dren will be asked to play with an adult if pos­si­ble.

The game is played with two play­ers both hit­ting off at the tee then pick­ing the best shot to hit from then hit­ting al­ter­nate shots for the rest of the hole.

This is a great way to have a go and a quick game to play.

A bar­be­cue will be avail­able af­ter play so please come and en­joy a friendly game of golf start­ing at 5pm to 6pm hit-off times.

Bare­foot Bowls is on Thurs­day evenings from 7pm. All wel­come. Please have names down by 6.30pm. Teams of four play­ers.

Ber­ri­gan Pool Com­mit­tee has opened morn­ing laps to the public.

The pool is open from 6am-7am, cost is $50 and all money will go back into the ren­o­va­tions of the pool.

The pool will of­fi­cially open this Fri­day at 3pm with a sausage siz­zle at 5.30pm un­til 7pm.

This sea­son will again see sub­sidised en­try for our lo­cal schools, fam­i­lies and visitors.

Last sea­son’s up­grades at the pool in­clude new equip­ment, shed and bar­be­cue, sun shades, lane ropes and very wel­comed steps.

Com­mit­tee mem­bers over the break this year have in­stalled an au­to­mated sprin­kler sys­tem, re­painted the pool outer perime­ters, ren­o­vated and painted the can­teen and added a new fridge/freezer.

Mem­bers look for­ward to see­ing ev­ery­one there on open­ing night.

The Ber­ri­gan Com­mu­nity Golf and Bowl­ing Club in­vite the com­mu­nity to come along on Thurs­day nights to the Club Su­per Draw.

Be­tween 7-9pm there will be a draw for $1400. You must be a so­cial mem­ber of the club and be present and 18 or over to be el­i­gi­ble to win.

The BDDA has re­ceived an of­fer to re­move old car bod­ies from prop­er­ties free of charge. Mem­bers in­vite you to take up this op­por­tu­nity to re­claim your beau­ti­ful gar­den land­scape.

There are many un­reg­is­tered ve­hi­cles ly­ing un­touched and unloved around Ber­ri­gan. It may be a prized project that has yet to be started or an idea that did not work out, or per­haps you just don’t have a means to get rid of the ve­hi­cle.

What­ever the rea­son, if you would like to have your old ve­hi­cle re­moved please call Joe Cot­tam to ar­range the pick-up. Joe can be con­tacted on 0428 594539.
