Annie’s health award honour
Community Health Care’s Finley-based manager innovation and clinical redesign Annie Williams has received the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) Chief Executive’s Choice Award.
Mrs Williams was recognised for being a ‘‘change agent and influencer to make improvements in how clinical services are delivered’’ and ‘‘has inspired many staff’’.
She was described by fellow peers as a ‘‘leader, mentor, innovator and a role model who has a positive influence on others to review and change the way they work and to undertake research and quality improvement projects’’.
Mrs Williams said she was honoured to win the award, which is recognition of the effort she puts into her job.
‘‘My role involves running large scale program management, small scale project management and often working with MLHD staff members on elements of process improvement,’’ she said.
‘‘In March last year the secretary of health commissioned all of New South Wales to work on a large scale program called Leading Better Value Care.
‘‘Part of that is about moving health away from just counting the activities to measuring the value of the services we provide, so it’s a big shift in how we provide our services.
‘‘The CEO at the time commissioned me to run that program for MLHD so that involves working closely with the ministry and Agency for Clinical Improvement.
‘‘We’re implementing 20 projects at this stage across the district with another 30 to come on board in the next 12 months.’’
Mrs Williams’ work extends across the entire MLHD region, which means she is away from home, on average, three days per week.
‘‘There’s a lot of variation in my role,’’ Mrs Williams said.
‘‘It can be demanding and requires a degree of flexibility but there’s a huge opportunity with how we deliver care to our community.
‘‘Being a rural person I’m pas- sionate about making sure we provide equity of access to services and quality of service, whether you live in Finley or Wagga. I’m lucky I get to work on the frontline with providing the skills and resources.’’
Mrs Williams, who has a background in radiography and previously worked at Finley Hospital from 1986 to 2009, returned to MLHD in 2014 after five years with Goulburn Valley Health in Shepparton.
