Ridings revisited

Southern Riverina news - - NEWS -

Dear Editor, I wish to comment on the recent council election.

It had the potential of Tocumwal 4, Berrigan nil. I feel it was fortunate that didn’t occur.

Well what happened to the system of shire ridings? Let me tell you.

That was abolished by the shire in 1986 because the council got beaten by the local residents on an attempt to change angle parking in Finley to parallel.

The angle which to park was not the issue with council, it was that they lost.

Thus the riding system was abolished, resulting in this potentially inequitable situation.

Saving face is important to them. Look at the Finley hall situation. No different.

Yours etc. Gary Mexted
