Finley netball reports:
A grade: Rumbalara 42 def. Finley 31.
Finley came up against second place Rumbalara on Saturday at home in very cold, windy and wet conditions.
The fast pace Rumbalara got the jump in the first quarter to lead 15-6, which made the young Cats play catch-up all game.
Finley rallied at the first break to regroup and win the second quarter 11-8 but weren’t able to hold off a determined Rumbalara to go down by 11 at the final whistle.
Finley still have a slim hope of making finals with one home and away game to go.
Awards: RS Club - Eloise Ashley-Cooper; FFNC dinner - Maicie Close.
B grade: Finley 44 def. Rumbalara 30.
A great game by Finley. The intensity was high and the pressure all over the court was excellent.
Zoe Stephens had an outstanding game in GD, creating turnovers and taking plenty of rebounds.
Holly Robinson ran hard in the centre and Keeley Coates and Shania Bentley shot beautifully in blustery conditions.
Awards: Eagle-i – Zoe Stephens; Country Club - Holly Robinson; Nicky’s Teapot - Ally Rourke.
C Reserve: Finley 40 def. Rumbalara 28.
A great game from the team. Finley tried a new combination in the goal circle with Sasha Wood making her debut shooting with her mentor Karen Donkin.
Sasha’s time shooting was short lived though and she returned to defence with her fellow defenders Bridget Tegart and Celene Jamieson who all combined well to shut down the opposition.
Elyse Price took on the centre position with ease, providing great drive. Phoebe Doyle, Kaylee Lonsdale and Vanessa Geeves worked hard in the mid court to get the ball to the ever reliable shooters Nicole Hargreaves and Karen Donkin.
Awards: Kelly Grains – Elyse Price; Nicky’s Teapot – Bridget Tegart.
U17: Finley 26 def. Rumbalara 17. Great defensive work from Molly McGrath and Wynta Brain, and the mid court supplied good ball to the shooters.
Awards: Sara Orro and Molly McGrath.
