Cats rule over Rams
Finley’s B grade had an impressive win against rival Deni Rams in the qualifying finals at the Finley Apex Sports and Community Centre on Saturday.
It was an intense battle in the first half with neither side able to gain an advantage over the other.
Scores were locked at half time before the Cats demon- strated amazing teamwork, dynamic defensive pressure, accurate shooting and a never give up attitude to run away with a 13 goal win.
Finley now have a week off, earning a spot in the preliminary finals and awaiting the winner of the game between Congupna and Mulwala.
Final score, Finley 40 to Deni Rams 27.
Finley’s Under 15s have been knocked out of finals after suffering a 10 goal loss to Rumbalara at Nathalia on Sunday.
The Cats started well in the first half keeping up with the fast paced Rumba side.
Isabella Kelly and Nicola Denny worked hard in defence to keep the shooters under control, while midcourters Cassidy Reynolds, Lucy-Jane Burdon, Lily Mae Ogilvie and Abbey Marshall kept trying all day to keep the game very even.
Ruby Russell and Mackenzie Hannan converted the goals, but unfortunately after half time the Rumbalara side were just too strong.
Congratulations to the Cats for a great effort making the finals.
Final score, Rumbalara 42 to Finley 32.
The Under 13s Cats played a fantastic game against Barooga, keeping their finals hopes alive with a three goal win at Nathalia on Sunday.
Finley came out hungry for the ball resulting in a nine goal lead by the end of the first quarter.
The Hawks pegged back the margin mid-game making for a nail biting affair.
But with a few changes the Cats finished strongly to record a victory.
Finley now move their focus to the semi finals, where they will travel to Mulwala to take on Tongala on Saturday.
Final score, Finley 28 to Barooga 25.
