Holy oc­ca­sions

Nine chil­dren re­ceived the sacra­ment of First Holy Com­mu­nion and four chil­dren re­ceived the sacra­ment of con­fir­ma­tion in the St Columba's Par­ish on Sun­day, Septem­ber 23.

The chil­dren have been pre­par­ing for this spe­cial oc­ca­sion with weekly classes with Fr Rick Mi­callef dur­ing Term 3.

Fam­ily and friends of the can­di­dates joined with par­ish mem­bers for a morn­ing tea at the con­clu­sion of mass and the all im­por­tant cut­ting of the cel­e­bra­tion cake made by Cara Loats.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Amelia Packer, Franch­esca Ur­ru­tia, Pene­lope Bruce and Matthew Fitz­patrick on their Con­fir­ma­tion and Mia Cameron, An­nas­ta­sia Bruce, Justin Milne, Jeremy Packer, Franch­esca Ur­ru­tia, Jes­sica Lorimer, Lucy Pyle, Far­ron Ur­ru­tia and Matthew Fitz­patrick on their First Holy Com­mu­nion.

Af­ter a term of prac­tis­ing the skills of golf, Ber­ri­gan Pub­lic School’s Year 5/6 stu­dents will head to the Ber­ri­gan golf course again this Fri­day for a game.

Thank you to Rod and Mag­gie for a great term of golf skill de­vel­op­ment for all our stu­dents Kinder­garten to Year 6.

The Ber­ri­gan Com­mu­nity Club would ap­pre­ci­ate any help this week­end when the golf greens and one bowl­ing green will be cored. Please let Rick Brad­bury know if you can help.

Un­for­tu­nately the Ber­ri­gan Com­mu­nity Clear­ing Sale, which was to be held Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 13, has been can­celled.

The Ber­ri­gan Com­mu­nity Golf & Bowl­ing Club will be hav­ing a char­ity golf and bowls day on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 21 with all pro­ceeds go­ing to MND and drought re­lief.

The morn­ing will start at 10am with a nine hole, three-per­son Am­brose par three course.

Once the golf is fin­ished you will head to the bowls green and play two games of eight ends, of three bowls triples.

It will be draw for teams and the same team will play golf and bowls, en­try is $20 per team which in­cludes a bar­be­cue lunch.

This prom­ises to be a great com­mu­nity day and is for all ages and ev­ery­one is en­cour­aged to get be­hind this great cause.

The pool com­mit­tee will be hav­ing a work­ing bee this Satur­day and Sun­day, from 10am each day, and would ap­pre­ci­ate help from any­one who can spare a cou­ple of hours.

There will be an­other Dam Fish­ing morn­ing on Oc­to­ber 14 with trout and na­tive fish to catch. Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for chil­dren un­der 16. A bar­be­cue will be avail­able dur­ing the morn­ing.

Also the com­mit­tee is look­ing for help to fill the can­teen ros­ter. Put your name down or call Cristina on 0429 571 988 to vol­un­teer.

The Ber­ri­gan Com­mu­nity Gar­den is look­ing amaz­ing. The com­mit­tee has been har­vest­ing broc­coli, spinach, sil­ver beet, let­tuce, kale and pars­ley.

Take a walk and see what you can pick for your din­ner, or join the group on Wed­nes­days at 1.30pm or Satur­days at 9.30am.

Mem­ber­ship is grow­ing, and is only $5 per per­son. Forms can be picked up from BookInChanters or at the gar­den.

All pro­ceeds from mem­ber­ship goes to­wards pur­chas­ing seeds, seedlings, sea­sol and many other items.

There will be a film af­ter­noon at the Ber­ri­gan Li­brary on Tues­day at 1.30pm.

The film is El­iz­a­beth, The Golden Age, an Os­car award win­ning movie, star­ring Cate Blanchett and Ge­of­frey Rush. Book­ings can be made at the li­brary on 5888 5180.

Kids Fest will be on again this year, on Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 23 from 4pm-6pm.

With hol­i­days now on, call into the li­brary to see what pro­grams are avail­able for your chil­dren.

Ber­ri­gan Ten­nis Club re­cently held its AGM and the ex­ec­u­tive com­mit­tee re­mained un­changed with Chris Cameron as pres­i­dent, Steve Parr as vice pres­i­dent, Louise Hatty as sec­re­tary and Carolyn Alexan­der as trea­surer.

A Grade night ten­nis starts Tues­day at 7.30pm.

The com­mit­tee hopes to get B Grade run­ning again this year, as well as a Fri­day night in­ter­town school kids com­pe­ti­tion. Any­one in­ter­ested in play­ing in ei­ther should con­tact Carolyn Alexan­der on 0427 668 062.
