Two new life members
Sharon Cameron and Lyndall Horne were each presented with life membership of the Berrigan A&H Society at the Berrigan Show on Sunday.
Both were recognised for their commitment to helping the show run smoothly every year.
Mrs Horne became secretary in 2012 after being involved with the committee for a couple of years. She said it was an honour the committee elected her to receive life membership.
‘‘I don’t do this for the award, but because I enjoy it,’’ she said.
‘‘I’ve been on the committee for 10 years so compared to others I’m still a bit of a newbie.
‘‘I work with a great committee who make it very easy and manageable because they have their roles.
‘‘We’ve been lucky to have ground improvements with the new pavilion and the grants we secured to help us install the underground electricity system, plus the volunteer grants we’ve secured to purchase items that make it easier to do our jobs.’’
Mrs Cameron moved to Berrigan in 1998 and to make friends joined the show society.
Since joining she has become close friends with Helen Pyle and the pair are now joint horse secretaries.
Berrigan A&H Society president Neville Dalgliesh said both were well deserving of the accolades.
‘‘Sharon has been on the committee for a long time. She’s been stewarding with Helen Pyle and they both organise the horses.
‘‘It makes life really easy for us because we don’t need to do anything; it all just falls into place.
‘‘Lyndall has been secretary for last seven years and she’s just so efficient. Everything is done perfectly. You never have to worry about anything. I’ll ring her up and say ‘I think we need to do this and that’ and she’ll say ‘it’s done’.’’
Certificates of Appreciation were also awarded on the day to Keith Graham, Ray Eldridge, John Quinn, George and Dawn Pyle, and Jim Macartney.
These awards recognise the valuable contribution each has made to the annual Berrigan Show and the Berrigan A&H Society in their respective roles as stewards, committee members and executives and announcers.
