Library to help locals Get Online next week
Next week will see Berrigan Shire Library Service help residents of Tocumwal, Barooga, Berrigan and Finley to improve their digital skills, thanks to the international Get Online Week campaign.
The event, taking place at each Library Branch, gives everyone the chance to make the most of the internet, no matter how confident they are online.
Running from Monday, October 15 until Sunday, October 21, Get Online Week will see hundreds of community events take place across the country.
It is the first time the campaign has been held in Australia, after 11 successful years in the United Kingdom where hundreds of thousands of people have been supported.
The campaign aims to support the 2.5 million Australians who are not online.
Manager of Library Services Anne Nevin said the open day at the library will be held to assist all seniors with their devices.
‘‘We also want to ask each participant to #Try1thing new online,’’ she said.
‘‘More people than you probably think still don’t use the internet at all, and we’re here to help.
‘‘Getting the most out of the internet doesn’t have to be scary.
‘‘Doing just one new thing online is all you need to do to get started so come along to our event and we can help you do just that.
“We’ll be holding our Get Online Week events at each shire library from Tuesday October 16 from 10am to 3pm each day.
‘‘There’ll be lots of friendly support for anyone who wants to start doing a bit more online and it’s absolutely free,” Mrs Nevins said.
