Pen­nant re­turns

Fin­ley BC The Mur­ray Bowls Divi­sion pen­nant sea­son for 2018/19 will start this week on Fri­day and Satur­day.

Fin­ley’s num­ber one side in the week­end pen­nant has been pro­moted to Divi­sion Two as a re­sult of be­ing premiers in Divi­sion Three last sea­son.

Divi­sion Four were un­lucky last sea­son but will be stronger for the com­ing con­tests.

Teams care­fully cho­sen to rep­re­sent the club for the open­ing round are as fol­lows:

Fin­ley’s Divi­sion One in Mid­week Pen­nant travel to Co­bram with cars to leave at 9am on Fri­day: Nan Smith (s), Ash Haines, Betty Robin­son, Gail Welsh; Heather Tabe (s), Lyn Bergmans, Sheila Walsh, Les­ley McKel­lar; Tracey Miles (s), Karl Bergmans, Nola Wood, Betty Boyd.

The Week­end Pen­nant Divi­sion Two side play Tocumwal at home on Satur­day: A Haines (s), B Mi­son, N Smith, G Welsh; S John­son (s), T Miles, B Robin­son, B An­der­son; D McKel­lar (s), G Close, A Cowan, R Koschel; G Trevor­row (s), H Tabe, B Poore, L McKel­lar.

Divi­sion Four play Tocumwal at home on Satur­day: K Bergmans (s), L Bergmans, N Wil­son, G Pyle; B Wike (s), N Barnes, R Wood, H. Tay­lor.

Sun­day morn­ing bowls is at­tract­ing more play­ers for reg­u­lar com­pe­ti­tion.

The win­ning com­bi­na­tion this week was Ash Haines and his brother Brett Mil­sop (Syd­ney). Con­so­la­tion prize to Ray Wood and Nan Smith; Norm Barnes and Les­ley McKel­lar.

The Men's 100 up pairs event, dfp with three bowls, will in­clude all male play­ers.

The draw has been made and is on dis­play on the no­tice board.

Matches can be played to suit the play­ers.

Ber­ri­gan Over 35 peo­ple pitched in over the week­end for the com­bined Golf and Bowls work­ing bee – a great re­sult on a week­end where there were two other com­mu­nity work­ing bees in town.

The Burke-Bush green has been cored and topped up with sand and should come up a treat by the Jack McGrillen tour­na­ment at the end of the month.

There were 16 bowlers present for so­cial bowls on Sun­day.

The win­ners of the $10 club vouch­ers were Lau­rie Way and David Fox.

This week’s so­cial bowls will start at 1pm on Sun­day.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Lau­rie Way, Roger Reynold­son, Hardy Ren­nick and Alex Dal­gliesh who will all make their pen­nant bowls de­but this Satur­day against Ba­rooga Sports at home.

Fri­day pen­nant starts this week as well with Ber­ri­gan at home against Nu­murkah.

There are still a few bowlers who have not yet paid their 2018/19 bowls mem­ber­ship - make sure you pay be­fore the sea­son starts.

Twi­light bowls starts on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 11 at 6.30pm.

All bowlers and non­bowlers are wel­come for a fun, so­cial and re­laxed evening.

The club raf­fles and mem­bers draw will take place im­me­di­ately af­ter­wards.

The B Grade Open cham­pi­onship will start on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 18 at 5.30pm.

All reg­is­tered bowlers are wel­come to en­ter ex­cept those who have pre­vi­ously won the Men’s or Women’s Club Cham­pion or B grade cham­pion.

With the kind per­mis­sion of the Curtin fam­ily, the win­ner of the event will be pre­sented with the per­pet­ual Bernard Curtin tro­phy.

There are still spots avail­able in the Jack McGrillen Memo­rial two-bowl triples tour­na­ment on Oc­to­ber 28.

This is a very re­laxed event - en­ter a team and have some fun.

The com­bined Golf and Bowls Char­ity Day is on Sun­day Oc­to­ber 21.

The days con­sists of nine holes of golf — three per­son am­brose — fol­lowed by two games of eight ends of three­bowl triples.

Pro­ceeds will sup­port Mo­tor Neu­rone Dis­ease and Drought Relief.
