Finley Lion elected District Governor
Finley Lions secretary Carol Kennedy will serve as V6 District Governor in 2020-21 after been voted in as First Vice District Governor on Sunday for 2019/20.
Mrs Kennedy was joined by fellow Finley Lions and other members from Berrigan and Tocumwal for the annual District Lions Convention in Cohuna which drew more than 140 people.
According to the Lions constitution, a Lion must serve as Vice District Governor before ascending to District Governor.
Mrs Kennedy is the first person from the Southern Riverina to be elected to the top positions since Berrigan’s Graeme Arnold held the position in 2003/04. Before that, Finley’s Doug Wastle was District Governor in 1992/93.
This is the second time a Kennedy has held the position, with Mrs Kennedy’s husband Keith elected District Governor in 1990/91.
During her time as District Governor Mrs Kennedy will be expected to attend meetings and dinners across the region. It stretches as far west to Kerang, north to Balranald and Culcarin, across to Corryong and as far south as Mansfield.
‘‘There will be a lot of time spent on the road, but that’s part of the job,’’ Mrs Kennedy said.
‘‘I thought about it for some time and just decided to nominate at the convention.
‘‘It was quite exciting and I’m looking forward to the coming year.
‘‘Keith encouraged me to nominate and I have no doubt he’ll be providing advice as to how to run the position.’’
Former Finley Lion Omen Ndlovu, who is now based in Nathalia, will be District Governor in 2019/20.
