Fin­ley Lion elected Dis­trict Gov­er­nor

Fin­ley Lions sec­re­tary Carol Kennedy will serve as V6 Dis­trict Gov­er­nor in 2020-21 af­ter been voted in as First Vice Dis­trict Gov­er­nor on Sun­day for 2019/20.

Mrs Kennedy was joined by fel­low Fin­ley Lions and other mem­bers from Ber­ri­gan and Tocumwal for the an­nual Dis­trict Lions Con­ven­tion in Co­huna which drew more than 140 peo­ple.

Ac­cord­ing to the Lions con­sti­tu­tion, a Lion must serve as Vice Dis­trict Gov­er­nor be­fore as­cend­ing to Dis­trict Gov­er­nor.

Mrs Kennedy is the first per­son from the South­ern Riverina to be elected to the top po­si­tions since Ber­ri­gan’s Graeme Arnold held the po­si­tion in 2003/04. Be­fore that, Fin­ley’s Doug Was­tle was Dis­trict Gov­er­nor in 1992/93.

This is the sec­ond time a Kennedy has held the po­si­tion, with Mrs Kennedy’s hus­band Keith elected Dis­trict Gov­er­nor in 1990/91.

Dur­ing her time as Dis­trict Gov­er­nor Mrs Kennedy will be ex­pected to at­tend meet­ings and din­ners across the re­gion. It stretches as far west to Kerang, north to Bal­ranald and Cul­carin, across to Cor­ry­ong and as far south as Mans­field.

‘‘There will be a lot of time spent on the road, but that’s part of the job,’’ Mrs Kennedy said.

‘‘I thought about it for some time and just de­cided to nom­i­nate at the con­ven­tion.

‘‘It was quite ex­cit­ing and I’m look­ing for­ward to the com­ing year.

‘‘Keith en­cour­aged me to nom­i­nate and I have no doubt he’ll be pro­vid­ing ad­vice as to how to run the po­si­tion.’’

For­mer Fin­ley Lion Omen Ndlovu, who is now based in Nathalia, will be Dis­trict Gov­er­nor in 2019/20.
