Flower show a suc­cess

The an­nual Jer­ilderie Flower Show, held last Fri­day on a lovely Spring day, was a great suc­cess, tak­ing over $4000.

The Civic Hall looked very invit­ing, with beau­ti­ful flo­ral dis­plays, lovely craft, bak­ing and pro­duce en­tries, a stage full of colour­ful chil­dren’s art­work, and a va­ri­ety of in­ter­est­ing stalls to tempt the many visi­tors.

A de­li­cious lunch was pro­vided from around noon, and af­ter­noon tea was served later in the day.

Chil­dren from the two pri­mary schools and pre-school pro­vided en­ter­tain­ment be­fore the pre­sen­ta­tions of awards.

Ma­jor awards were as fol­lows – Mary Simpson per­pet­ual tro­phy Hazel Ston­nill, Most suc­cess­ful ex­hibitor Roy & Beth, Cham­pion rose Roy & Beth, Norma Rankin memo­rial tro­phy Mavis Dye, Keith Brew memo­rial tro­phy Ja­nine A’Vard, Dec­o­rated Hat Chick Dal­las.

Win­ners of the raf­fles were Glenda Brunt (ham­per), Mar­ion Palmer (cof­fee cups and fudge), Yvonne Teague (Le Reve can­dles), Lyn James (Christ­mas cake), Chris El­lis (sticky fin­gers), Yvonne Teague (cake stall).

Thanks have been ex­pressed to the won­der­ful vol­un­teers who work up to and on the day, com­mu­nity mem­bers who bring en­tries, the pre-school and school chil­dren for their lovely art work and mu­si­cal items, and the peo­ple who come to sup­port the day.

Tidy Towns Gar­den judg­ing awards were an­nounced at the Flower Show.

The list of win­ners in­cluded Bar­bie Hines (best new gar­den), An­nette Kelly (most colour­ful), G& D Mills( best back­yard ), Kay Hug­gins (best new back­yard), Fair­ways B& B( best busi­ness ), Ru­ral Fire Sta­tion (most colour­ful Govern­ment gar­den), Luke Park (neat & tidy Govern­ment), Greg and Car­men Law­ton neat and tidy, Mike & Jenny Pitt (over­all 2018).
