Council urges public input
Tenders have gone out to undertake upgrades in Brolga Place, in the Coleambally town centre.
The work will include new verandas and new street reserve to shop fronts, and for the Murrumbidgee Council offices.
Council will use $725,000 from its Drought Communities Programme – Extension grant for the beautification works.
‘‘Beautifying our townships has many benefits. They become more attractive places to live and visit, which then flows on to improving the quality of life for our residents,’’ Mayor Ruth McRae said.
‘‘We will have happier and more inclusive communities, as well as developing a stronger cultural identity for each of our unique towns.’’
The tender for Brolga Pl includes the demolition of the existing shop verandas and shop frontage area.
The works are expected to address previously identified issues with the redirection of rainwater through box gutters and downpipes, as well as wheelchair accessibility due to a height difference from shop entrances to the footpath.
The tender process closes on August 3, and in the meantime council is encouraging the community to provide input on potential designs. Concepts for other communities are also being investigated.
‘‘We have some exciting concepts in mind for each of our towns, including planter boxes, street art, tree planting and focused lighting,’’ Cr McRae said.
‘‘I encourage you to contact council’s manager for planning and environment Kelly Tyson on 0447 066 181 if you would like more information.’’
