Wel­lard Dental Vil­lage prac­tice man­ager Mered­ith Daw­son en­cour­ages peo­ple to have a dental check-up once ev­ery six months to en­sure op­ti­mum mouth health.

“If you’re com­ing twice a year, vis­its will be nice and easy,” she said.

“Gen­er­ally, when peo­ple are hav­ing six-monthly cleans and check-ups, if there is a tiny area of con­cern, it won’t get any big­ger be­cause our den­tists will watch it and en­sure it doesn’t progress.

“The main­te­nance of good oral health can also pre­vent fur­ther treat­ment and ex­pense.”

The dental surgery of­fers new pa­tients a check-up, clean, two X-rays and a flu­o­ride treat­ment for $195, which is gen­er­ally fully cov­ered, de­pen­dant on health provider and level of cover.

All chil­dren’s re­call check-up and cleans are also fully cov­ered by pri­vate health in­sur­ance, so there is no out-of-pocket ex­pense and the prac­tice of­fers in-chair bleach­ing and
