Fun day for FIFO families
With families of fly-in, fly-out workers experiencing increasing pressure, an event next week aims to get people talking about the issues they face in a fun and friendly way.
The Connecting Families Fun Day, presented by RedFM and the City of Rockingham, will give people the chance to meet other families and connect with the community.
The event will feature games, special guests and prizes to be won, including free entry passes to the Playground in Rockingham, vouchers from The Leisure Inn, family movie passes from United Cinemas Rockingham, and a $250 voucher to Seashells Resorts.
Principal psychologist and presenter of RedFM’s FIFO Life Show, Sandra Lam, will be on hand to give families tips on striking the right work-life balance.
“Having a strong social support network is critical for a healthy FIFO life, so our team at FIFO Focus are really looking forward to connecting with FIFO workers and their families,” she said.
“We will also be providing a number of tips and tricks to help workers, partners and families manage the challenges that they may face to ensure they get the best of the FIFO arrangement.”
Last month, the Telegraph reported Baldivis families were being driven to seek psychological help in record numbers as the mining downturn hit home.
Robbie Klitzing from RedFM Breakfast said he was excited about the chance to bring people together to talk about these issues.
“The support of family and friends is so important, it’s great to have a fun day where everyone can get together and gain some insight on how we can connect better,” he said. “I’m also super excited about seeing Fat Cat and I have bucketload of prizes to give away.”
The Connecting Families Free Fun Day comes to the Gary Holland Community Centre on Friday, July 7, from 10am-2pm.
