Flames sides fail to ignite
It was a disappointing weekend for both the men’s and women’s Rockingham Flames sides as they both lost double-headers against the Stirling Senators and Willetton Tigers last weekend.
The action started on Friday night at Mike Barnett Sports Complex, with the Flames women falling 67-73 to Stirling, while the men went down 64-66.
Star US import Chastity Reed was again the stand-out performer for the women as she racked up 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Fellow US import Donovan Jack collected 19 points and 11 rebounds in the men’s opening defeat, while Vinny Zollo scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, with Ryan Godfrey also scoring 16 points and picking up five assists.
On Saturday night, the Flames travelled to Willetton Basketball Stadium, with the women falling 78-55 in a one-sided contest.
Reed was again the standout performer for the Flames, scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 boards.
In the men’s clash, the Tigers’ Julius Bowie and the Flames’ Zollo (23 points each) stole the show, but it was the home side who ran out comfortable winners 89-70.
Jack chimed in with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Flames.
Both Flames sides will journey south to Bunbury this weekend to face the South West Slammers on Saturday night.
