Silver Chain to celebrate 50
Rockingham Silver Chain Volunteer Fundraisers’ Group will celebrate 50 years of raising money and supporting the community next month.
The group first met in October 1967 and have raised an estimated $700,000 since its inception.
This money has gone towards a host of worthy local causes, including the refurbishment of the Respite/ Social Centre, on Ray Street, Rockingham, and the provision of nurses and carers for Silver Chain’s clients.
There are a number of special events in September and October to celebrate the group’s 50-year anniversary, including a fashion parade.
Vicki Hearle said she would never forget the care Silver Chain nurses provided her late husband.
“In 2012, my dearest husband Ron was diagnosed with lung cancer — I cared for him at home and relied heavily on the service of Silver Chain,” she said.
“The comfort provided to Ron by the nurses will always be appreciated.”
Secretary Pat Thomson said the group met on the second Friday of every month, except January, at the Challenge Court Hall. New members are welcome. For more details, call 0437 517 733.
