Coun­cil in Bush­fire Cen­tre of Ex­cel­lence bid

City of Kwinana coun­cil has en­dorsed a pro­posal for the De­part­ment of Fire and Emer­gency Ser­vices Bush­fire Cen­tre of Ex­cel­lence to be lo­cated in Kwinana.

Mayor Carol Adams said the item had been brought to coun­cil on Oc­to­ber 24 that re­quested it en­dorse the sub­mis­sion.

Coun­cil min­utes re­veal the item, which was dis­cussed be­hind closed doors, re­ceived unan­i­mous sup­port with the added au­thor­ity for the mayor and chief ex­ec­u­tive to ad­vo­cate the pro­posal to rel­e­vant stake­hold­ers.

In April the State Gov­ern­ment an­nounced plans for a Bush­fire Cen­tre of Ex­cel­lence to be es­tab­lished for fire­fight­ing train­ing, re­search and de­vel­op­ment in WA.

“De­part­ment of Fire and Emer­gency Ser­vices out­lined that the lo­ca­tion can be within the Perth met­ro­pol­i­tan area but must have an ex­ist­ing or on­go­ing ru­ralur­ban in­ter­face,” Mrs Adams said.
