SPECIAL LOCAL’S BIG DAY
Leading a fulfilling life in the circle of his family
ANGELO Volpato was born on August 4, 1927, in Fossalunga, Northern Italy, the eldest of 12 children to Giovanni and Nea Volpato.
He arrived in Australia from Italy in 1952 to cut cane, returned to Italy to marry Oriana in 1957 and they both migrated to Australia the same year.
He has worked hard building up his apple orchard which he purchased in 1959, and was still helping harvest fruit until the age of 88.
He had no health issues until then and in May 2017 he underwent open heart surgery and had a pace maker inserted to improve a heart condition.
A few setbacks with recovery meant he had to take things easier for at least nine months, but he is now feeling stronger and visits the farm every day for a few hours to feed his Angus herd and assist with pruning.
Angelo celebrated his 90th birthday at the Gold Coast on Saturday, August 5, with close family, including two of his younger brothers and their wives from Sydney.
Angelo and Oriana have been married for 61 years, have two sons, two daughters, 10 grandchildren
