Lead­ing a ful­fill­ing life in the cir­cle of his fam­ily

AN­GELO Vol­pato was born on Au­gust 4, 1927, in Fos­salunga, North­ern Italy, the el­dest of 12 chil­dren to Giovanni and Nea Vol­pato.

He ar­rived in Aus­tralia from Italy in 1952 to cut cane, re­turned to Italy to marry Ori­ana in 1957 and they both mi­grated to Aus­tralia the same year.

He has worked hard build­ing up his ap­ple orchard which he pur­chased in 1959, and was still help­ing har­vest fruit un­til the age of 88.

He had no health is­sues un­til then and in May 2017 he un­der­went open heart surgery and had a pace maker in­serted to im­prove a heart con­di­tion.

A few set­backs with re­cov­ery meant he had to take things eas­ier for at least nine months, but he is now feel­ing stronger and vis­its the farm ev­ery day for a few hours to feed his An­gus herd and as­sist with prun­ing.

An­gelo cel­e­brated his 90th birth­day at the Gold Coast on Saturday, Au­gust 5, with close fam­ily, in­clud­ing two of his younger broth­ers and their wives from Syd­ney.

An­gelo and Ori­ana have been married for 61 years, have two sons, two daugh­ters, 10 grand­chil­dren
