U14s named joint winner
RUGBY LEAGUE: The MIT Jets/Gremlins and Goondiwindi Blue were named joint premiers on Saturday, following a serious car accident involving a Goondiwindi player and his family on the way to the game.
“It was an unbelievable year for the boys considering neither the MIT Jets nor the Gremlins could field a team at the start of the year,” Peter Patti said.
With that, the decision was made to combine the two teams under the MIT Jets colours for the season.
“It was a lot of travel for the Stanthorpe boys and their families but it was all worth the travelling considering the friendships made and the great football the team played throughout the season,” Patti said.
“The team, including Stanthorpe boys Brock Patti, Ky Rashleigh, Harry Williams, Travis Murphy and Jack McMeniman, achieved so much this year, winning against every team in the competition.
“The Jets were very confident of victory on Saturday although will now have to wait until next year for another tilt at the title.”
Manager Justin Heaven said the Gremlins would like to thank everyone involved in getting the team together this year, also a special thanks to Peter Brannigan who gave up so much of his time to coach the boys this year, along with Peter Patti, who wore many hats and provided the team with much support. Thoughts and prayers are with the injured player’s family.
