Stan­thorpe Gar­den Club

OUR next meet­ing will be held on Sun­day, at the home of Leanne Haynes, 314 Spring Creek Rd, Green­lands at 2pm. For those mem­bers who do not know the way, we will de­part from the Gazebo, Glee­son Park, Talc St, Stan­thorpe at 1.30pm. Don’t for­get your en­try for the Bloom of the Month and Pot of the Month (suc­cu­lent) com­pe­ti­tions. Also bring any con­tri­bu­tions you may have for the bring and buy ta­ble and af­ter­noon tea to share.

Bring a fold­ing chair to as­sist with seat­ing. We look for­ward to your com­pany on Sun­day. New mem­bers wel­come.

Stan­thorpe Golf

THE FOURSOMES cham­pi­onships were com­pleted on Sun­day, an al­ter­nate shot event played over 27 holes. The team of

Matt Water­worth and Mick O’Brien re­turned a score of 117 to con­tinue their dom­i­nance in this event, tak­ing the ti­tle for the third year run­ning.

Sec­ond di­vi­sion win­ner was the team of Gra­ham Tonkin and Ron Bat­ter­ham who needed

134 for the round. Best nett scores went to Tom Fit­tock and Alan Kerr in A di­vi­sion and An­gelo Maugeri and Aaron Sim­mers in sec­ond di­vi­sion. The ladies’ event, also played over 27 holes, needed an ex­tra hole play off be­fore Lynette Lud­low and Racheal Hendry claimed the ti­tle. Neta Thouard and Lor­raine Evans, un­suc­cess­ful in the play-off, did how­ever end up with the best nett for the ladies’ event. Thanks to An­der­sens Car­pets for spon­sor­ing the men’s foursomes and to Lyn Lud­low and Mandy Benussi for spon­sor­ing the ladies’ foursomes event.

Satur­day’s event was the

Lau­rie and Val New­ley Memo­rial event, a sin­gle stable­ford spon­sored by the New­ley fam­ily.

The men’s event re­sulted in four play­ers re­turn­ing 40 points for the round. Af­ter the count­back, Max Hunter was the even­tual win­ner with Rob Reeves tak­ing sec­ond place. Ian Pick­er­ing and Richard Rear­don, also with 40 points, set­tled for the run down. Margie Locke won the ladies event with 39 points with Tric Fit­tock in sec­ond place with 37 points.

Pin shots on the day were awarded to Rob Reeves at 3, David Burgess at

12 and Phil McGreevy at 17. Ladies win­ner, Margie Locke, had best ap­proach at 17. Pro-pins went to Rob Reeves at 1/10, Si­mon Shan­non at 5/14 and Matt Water­worth at 9/18. The run down went to 38 points for men and 35 for ladies.

The club will host the Dar­ling Downs Vets next Mon­day. The last time the vets were in Stan­thorpe, the game was over af­ter a cou­ple of holes with a down­pour stop­ping play. Even though rain would be ap­pre­ci­ated, hope­fully a full 18 holes will be played.

Satur­day’s club com­pe­ti­tion is a sin­gle stable­ford spon­sored by Ron and An­nelle Bat­ter­ham. Tee-off from 11am and the time sheet is on the board.

RSL West de­feated 2 Thirsty 8-1. High­est score 135 Carl; high­est peg out 98 Mar; best player Mal 4 Peg 0 Tons.

Top Flight de­feated Dou­ble Vi­sion 5-4. High­est score 180 Dave D; high­est peg out 78 Rod; best player Rod 4 Peg 1 Tons.

Bel­lamy’s de­feated Wells & Co 5-4. High­est score 134 Brett; high­est peg out 68 Brett; best play­ers Brett 3 Peg 3 Tons. Out­siders de­feated Rebels 6-3. High­est score 124 Nathan; high­est peg out 58 Michael; best player Michael 5 Peg 5 Tons.

CC de­feated CC2 5-4.

High­est score 121 Bobby; high­est peg out 56 Mitch; best player Wayne 3 Peg 1 Tons.

The Sum­mit Bowls

A BRIL­LIANT af­ter­noon for last Satur­day’s su­per 10 pairs with two rounds played over the in­ter­est­ing con­di­tions of play which en­cour­aged bowlers not to waste bowls.

Scor­ing was first to 51 points ie; 10pts per end, 4pts closet, 3 next, 2 next and 1 next. 10 ends per game first pair to 51 points win.

Thanks again to pres­i­dent Robin Parker for work­ing the bar and Erol Moss for prepar­ing a su­per 10 green for our first two bowl su­per 10 pairs af­ter­noon. Great new quick for­mat a big hit thanks to shot­gun Shan­non for in­tro­duc­ing this type of game to our pro­gram.
