Stanthorpe Garden Club
OUR next meeting will be held on Sunday, at the home of Leanne Haynes, 314 Spring Creek Rd, Greenlands at 2pm. For those members who do not know the way, we will depart from the Gazebo, Gleeson Park, Talc St, Stanthorpe at 1.30pm. Don’t forget your entry for the Bloom of the Month and Pot of the Month (succulent) competitions. Also bring any contributions you may have for the bring and buy table and afternoon tea to share.

THE FOURSOMES championships were completed on Sunday, an alternate shot event played over 27 holes. The team of
Matt Waterworth and Mick O’Brien returned a score of 117 to continue their dominance in this event, taking the title for the third year running.
Second division winner was the team of Graham Tonkin and Ron Batterham who needed
134 for the round. Best nett scores went to Tom Fittock and Alan Kerr in A division and Angelo Maugeri and Aaron Simmers in second division. The ladies’ event, also played over 27 holes, needed an extra hole play off before Lynette Ludlow and Racheal Hendry claimed the title. Neta Thouard and Lorraine Evans, unsuccessful in the play-off, did however end up with the best nett for the ladies’ event. Thanks to Andersens Carpets for sponsoring the men’s foursomes and to Lyn Ludlow and Mandy Benussi for sponsoring the ladies’ foursomes event.
Saturday’s event was the
Laurie and Val Newley Memorial event, a single stableford sponsored by the Newley family.
The men’s event resulted in four players returning 40 points for the round. After the countback, Max Hunter was the eventual winner with Rob Reeves taking second place. Ian Pickering and Richard Reardon, also with 40 points, settled for the run down. Margie Locke won the ladies event with 39 points with Tric Fittock in second place with 37 points.
Pin shots on the day were awarded to Rob Reeves at 3, David Burgess at
12 and Phil McGreevy at 17. Ladies winner, Margie Locke, had best approach at 17. Pro-pins went to Rob Reeves at 1/10, Simon Shannon at 5/14 and Matt Waterworth at 9/18. The run down went to 38 points for men and 35 for ladies.
The club will host the Darling Downs Vets next Monday. The last time the vets were in Stanthorpe, the game was over after a couple of holes with a downpour stopping play. Even though rain would be appreciated, hopefully a full 18 holes will be played.
Saturday’s club competition is a single stableford sponsored by Ron and Annelle Batterham. Tee-off from 11am and the time sheet is on the board.
RSL West defeated 2 Thirsty 8-1. Highest score 135 Carl; highest peg out 98 Mar; best player Mal 4 Peg 0 Tons.
Top Flight defeated Double Vision 5-4. Highest score 180 Dave D; highest peg out 78 Rod; best player Rod 4 Peg 1 Tons.
Bellamy’s defeated Wells & Co 5-4. Highest score 134 Brett; highest peg out 68 Brett; best players Brett 3 Peg 3 Tons. Outsiders defeated Rebels 6-3. Highest score 124 Nathan; highest peg out 58 Michael; best player Michael 5 Peg 5 Tons.
CC defeated CC2 5-4.
Highest score 121 Bobby; highest peg out 56 Mitch; best player Wayne 3 Peg 1 Tons.

A BRILLIANT afternoon for last Saturday’s super 10 pairs with two rounds played over the interesting conditions of play which encouraged bowlers not to waste bowls.
Scoring was first to 51 points ie; 10pts per end, 4pts closet, 3 next, 2 next and 1 next. 10 ends per game first pair to 51 points win.
