School duo receives display of gratitude

Thanks given to ladies

Stanthorpe Border Post - - NIE HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS -

Nutritional thanks

ON Friday, September 3, Stanthorpe State High School celebrated Tuck Shop Day.

Students took the time to give a special thank you to our hard-working canteen staff who don’t always get the thanks they deserve.

On behalf of the student body, Claire McCormick and Matthew Burgess presented Michele MacDonald and Colleen Reed with flowers and a certificate of appreciation.

The students wanted to highlight the important role our canteen plays in daily school life.

Canteen staff consistently provide nutritious food and drinks which means families can have one less task to worry about at the start of their busy day.

It’s proven that having healthy meals help students concentrate and learn better in class.

Students are always encouraged to say please and thank you every time they use the tuck shop as it is important to recognise the work that goes on behind the scenes.

Plenty of work goes into preparing the food and to keep the tuck shop clean and well-stocked.

On Tuck Shop Day they were reminded to make a special effort to say thanks to the canteen staff as their work is appreciated by the whole school community.

Melbourne Cup assessment

YOU don’t usually see assessment occurring at a Melbourne Cup party but, at last week’s Queensland College of Wine Tourism Melbourne Cup event, Years 11 and 12 Certificate II in Hospitality students were actually being assessed.

They had to provide the service for the 70-guest function, including set up, drinks preparation and service, food service, clearing, washing up for both restaurant and kitchen as well as pull down.

Students looked the part in their hospitality/tourism uniform and guests commented on how friendly and helpful they were.

Their next assessment function will occur at the Year 12 graduation dinner where they will not only provide food service but offer delectable mocktails as part of their unit, prepare and serve non-alcoholic beverages.
