Parade to make for great vibes

Fun carnival atmosphere

Stanthorpe Border Post - - NEWS -

GRANITE Belt students, teachers and P&C Associations are encouraged to take time during their approaching summer holidays to think about their entries in the 2018 Apple and Grape Harvest Festival Grand Parade.

With the festival just three months away, Apple and Grape Harvest Festival president Greg Thouard is inviting schools to once again join in 10 days of fun activities from February 23 to March 4, 2018.

To add to the carnival atmosphere, all schools entering the grand parade are urged to dress in the theme of the 2018 festival, celebrating the Granite Belt’s great produce and food.

“At recent festivals, there has been a wonderful growth in participation by schools in the grand parade,” Mr Thouard said.

“In 2016, many schools entered in the carnival spirit by dressing in 50th anniversary or ‘When in Rome’ themes.

“What the 2018 festival committee would like to see is all schools entering the grand parade and be dressed in a theme that celebrates the district’s food produce. For instance, dress as a farmer, celebrate gate-to-plate, or be a vineyard, an orchard, or even a cow or a sheep.

“Alternatively, the school could make its own choice of colourful carnival character dress-ups.

“Ultimately, the festival committee would like schools to follow their school flag/banner with pride and support a colourful grand parade in dress-up themes.”

Although the theme of the 2018 Festival is Stanthorpe Food and Wine – It’s Divine, the festival committee does not expect school children to celebrate wine, leaving that for the adult parade entries.

To encourage schools to have fun by dressing-up and entering the parade Crisps Coaches is supporting a Schools Category in the Colourful Carnival Characters section.

Final prize levels are yet to be determined but it is expected at least first, second and third prizes will be awarded.

The grand parade judging process will be streamlined so that children do not have to wait too long for the parade to be judged.

Nomination forms will be sent to schools in early 2018.

The Apple and Grape Harvest Festival also offers school music groups, choirs and poets the chance to perform in Farley Piazza during festival week.
