Town ready to light up for open­ing

Lights on in eight days

THE Ap­ple and Grape Har­vest Fes­ti­val com­mit­tee is en­cour­ag­ing the whole com­mu­nity to be part of its open­ing night cel­e­bra­tions on Fri­day, Fe­bru­ary 23, from 5.30pm to 9.30pm.

Mary­land Street will be closed to traf­fic be­tween Rail­way Street and Folke­stone Street for an evening of events, in­clud­ing the of­fi­cial switch­ing on of the fes­ti­val lights.

Reg­u­lar fes­ti­val vis­i­tors, The String Fam­ily, and pop­u­lar lo­cal band Cole Train will en­ter­tain through­out the evening.

This is also a chance to meet the Fes­ti­val’s Young Am­bas­sadors and wish them well for the fes­ti­val week.

The Fes­ti­val Mas­cots, Jonathan and Is­abella, will also be there to help launch 10 days of fes­ti­val fun.

Lights are ex­pected to be turned on at 7.15pm.

With the plenty of space to fill, the Ap­ple and Grape Har­vest Fes­ti­val is invit­ing the com­mu­nity to join in the fes­tiv­i­ties.

The com­mit­tee is look­ing for ve­hi­cles, bikes, mar­kets or other com­mu­nity groups to Show ‘n Shine on this open­ing night.

The Open­ing Night Cel­e­bra­tion kicks off a week of events in­clud­ing the South East Queens­land re­gional fi­nals of the Aus­tralian Busk­ing Cham­pi­onships (Fe­bru­ary 24), Ridgy Didge Bush Band per­form­ing in Civic Cen­tre (Fe­bru­ary 24), Open Gar­dens (Satur­day & Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 24-25; Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 28; Fri­day, March 2; Satur­day & Sun­day, March 3-4), Banchetto Ital­iano (Fe­bru­ary 25); the Har­vest Thanks­giv­ing Ser­vice (Fe­bru­ary 25); daily food demon­stra­tions by guest chefs fea­tur­ing lo­cal pro­duce matched to lo­cal wines; school per­for­mances in Far­ley Pi­azza; Se­niors Con­cert (Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 27); Fam­ily Con­cert with The String Fam­ily, brass and pipe bands (Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 27); and Wine Mas­ter Classes; as well as golf and bowls events.
