Dam hit by brazen H20 thief

Stanthorpe Border Post - - NEWS -

DROUGHT continues to persist on the Granite Belt with some people going to extraordinary and illegal measures to secure water.

While Stanthorpe Police have seen a rise in property crime of late, it is not just cash and cards going missing.

Stanthorpe Senior Sergeant Gerard Brady said it was disappointing to be called to a case of water theft.

The incident occurred between June 11 and 12.

“Unknown persons attended a 6 Bau Court address at Applethorpe and utilised a preexisting pump at the location to steal 30,000 litres of dam water,” Snr Sgt Brady said.

“It’s the first time we’ve seen water theft for a little while.

“While obviously not potable water, the persons would have had to have used a semi trailer or large tanker.

“The dam was fit with a meter so they know how much was stolen.”
