Minds over matter

Stirling Times - - OPINION -

OUR Lady of Grace Primary School is one of six West Australian schools heading to Adelaide this month as part of the Tournament of Minds (TOM) Australasian Pacific Finals.

The North Beach school took out social science and science technology categories at last month’s State Championships and will be joined by Whitford Catholic Primary School, winner of the language literature category, and St Hilda’s, which took out the engineering mathematics category.

TOM is a problem-solving program for teams of students from both primary and secondary years and helps develop diverse skills in enterprise, time management and team work.

Social sciences team member Josie Hicks said the team was proud to be representing WA at the finals in Adelaide.

“We get to meet and compete against so many brilliant and creative students and develop many valuable skills,” she said.

About 900 students from 62 WA schools competed in this year’s competition.
