Improve your balance

Stirling Times - - Street Watch -

OLDER Stirling residents can participate in a free balance workshop at Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) that aims to prevent falls and accidents.

The workshop will cover balance exercises to prevent falls, managing medications and appropriate footwear.

Osborne Park nurse Lorraine Beaty said falls were not a normal part of ageing and improving their balance was the key to preventing falls for older people.

“There are many exercises older adults can undertake to improve their balance, and this year mem- bers of the community are invited to OPH to participate in balance exercises, tai chi classes and speak to a range of clinicians about falls prevention,” she said.

Ms Beaty said one in three people aged over 65 experienced a fall each year.
