A FREE program to help children and their families manage their weight is coming to several locations across the metropolitan area.

The Better Health Program is a free healthy lifestyle program for children aged between seven and 13 who are above a healthy weight.

The Health Departmentfunded program will be delivered from Term 4 at leisure centres in Swan, Canning, Joondalup, Cockburn, Rockingham, Stirling and Victoria Park.

Participants will attend twohour sessions once a week for 10 weeks, receiving support to improve their eating and exercise habits.

“The program is fun, friendly and family-focused,” WA project manager Chris Vavakis said.

“It encourages children to give new things a go and shows parents how they can be supportive and involve the whole family in making healthier choices and following an active lifestyle.

“Children can become healthier and fitter while their self-esteem and confidence increase greatly.”
