Volunteers needed

Stirling Times - - Street Watch - Bill Marwick

VANDA Gates first became interested in the WA Cancer Council’s Joondalup Wanneroo Relay for Life in 2008, when she helped to host a team of Year 12 girls dressed as super-heroes.

Since then, she has been a regular volunteer.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the 24-hour fundraiser, which will be held over the October 21-22 weekend at Arena Joondalup.

Funds raised in the lead-up and during the event will help the Cancer Council with its research and support programs.

Vanda likes to get to the arena early on the Saturday morning and enjoys meeting teams as they enter the ground, and to help set up tents for those staying overnight.

“Over the years I have helped in different areas, such as an extra hand in the kids’ section, or food preparation and manning the Salvation Army tent with teas and coffees,” she said.

Relay for Life volunteer coordinators Kim Boscarino and her daughter Kerry Boscarino-Hunter said they were looking for more volunteers, particularly to help set up the arena on Friday, October 20.

If you can help or would like more information, call 0402 637 810 or email relayvols joondalupwanneroo@gmail. com
