Draft Wel­come to Coun­try con­sid­ered

CITY of Stir­ling coun­cil will con­sider a draft Wel­come to Coun­try and Acknowledgement of Coun­try pol­icy at a com­mit­tee meet­ing in Fe­bru­ary next year.

At its Septem­ber 26 coun­cil meet­ing, Stir­ling coun­cil­lors voted for the re­tir­ing Cr Sa­man­tha Jenk­in­son’s al­ter­na­tive rec­om­men­da­tion for a re­port out­lin­ing the di­rec­tion and pro­to­cols to be pre­pared by City of­fi­cers.

Deputy Mayor Keith Sar­gent said the de­ci­sion would en­able of­fi­cers suf­fi­cient time to un­der­take con­sul­ta­tion with the Rec­on­cil­i­a­tion Ac­tion Plan work­ing group el­ders and com­plete a com­pos­ite re­port.

An open­ing prayer has been in­cluded in coun­cil meet­ings since 2005.
