Cow­per floats to top prize

HANK Gid­ney won the lo­cal artist prize at the re­cent City of Stir­ling Art Award and Ex­hi­bi­tion.

Stephanie De Bi­asi won best emerg­ing artist for the 16 to 25 years old cat­e­gory, Dae­vid An­der­son was awarded best paint­ing and Julie Pod­stol­ski won the draw­ing award.

Other win­ners in­cluded Mikaela Cas­tle­dine for the 3D sculp­ture cat­e­gory and Cathy Char­naud for best mixed me­dia work.

Sor­rento artist Shel­ley Cow­per won $5000 for the over­all first prize for her art­work The Boat­yard, which was de­scribed by judges as an “ex­cep­tion­ally ma­ture and con­fi­dent use of mixed me­dia”.

The piece will form part of the City’s art col­lec­tion.

The bi­en­nial event fea­tured more than 180 art­works across a va­ri­ety of medi­ums on dis­play at the City’s ad­min­is­tra­tion cen­tre.
