Pool noise makes waves with local

Stirling Times - - News -

NOISE levels are being investigated at Scarborough Beach Pool following a complaint.

The City of Stirling confirmed a resident from the apartments opposite complained about the noise from the 6am aqua aerobics class following the pool’s opening on January 22.

Community services director Trevor Holland said the next class was postponed while City noise abatement staff assessed the volume of noise emanating from the portable speaker.

Staff found the volume was within acceptable levels and moved the position of the speaker.

“The simple answer was orientation of the speaker… it now points out to sea and we’ve turned it down a bit,” he said.

Mr Holland said the City took complaints seriously and would also have external noise abatement contractors make an assessment.

A caller to radio station 6PR last Thursday said she recently heard a woman yelling at pool staff from the balcony of her Sandcastles apartment.

“There was a lady across the road on the top floor at the apartment with a megaphone yelling out, ‘please turn the music down, please turn the music down’, repeating it,” she said.

“It was not that loud.”

A resident is concerned about the level of noise coming from the new pool.
