10CC BACK FOR GOOD MEASURE – AND CURRY

Stirling Times - - Local Focus - Greig Johnston

IT seems crazy, but the man who wrote the line ‘I don’t like cricket – I love it’ actually has no interest in the game.

Graham Gouldman – bassist, singer and songwriter with British art pop outfit 10cc – wrote what would become the chorus of Dreadlock Holiday after a conversation in a bar.

“I’ve never, ever been to a cricket match in my life – I’m indifferent to it,” Gouldman said.

“I was in Jamaica and I met a guy; we were talking about sports and Manchester United.

“I said ‘What about cricket, do you like it?’. He said ‘No, I don’t like it – I love it’. All songwriters have their radar and I just thought ‘Thank you very much’.”

But while Dreadlock Holiday might be the song he’s best remembered for,

No, Graham Gouldman (centre) doesn’t really love cricket. But he loves a good curry.
