Wests bring in heavy hit­ters to try­out day

MIN­ING mag­nate and phi­lan­thropist An­drew ‘Twiggy’ For­rest joined past and present rugby stars at the sea­son launch of a Scar­bor­ough rugby club.

Wests Scar­bor­ough Rugby Union Club hosted a reg­is­tra­tion and try­out day at Ben­nett Park in Doubleview on Sun­day, at­tract­ing more than 250 peo­ple.

Mr For­rest’s Min­deroo Foun­da­tion has col­lab­o­rated with Rugby WA to es­tab­lish ju­nior rugby de­vel­op­ment pro­gram Rug­byRoos.

He was joined by for­mer West­ern Force and Wal­la­bies player Matt Hodg­son and cur­rent Force play­ers Brad Lacey and A.J. Ala­timu.

Mr For­rest gave a rous­ing speech on the day.

“You are the fu­ture,” he told the young play­ers in the crowd.

Pres­i­dent An­drew Hub­ble said there were about 250 ju­nior play­ers reg­is­tered at the club but more were wel­come to join.

“The in­ter­est from our try­out rugby day was a great ini­tia­tive in let­ting peo­ple know about the Wests Scar­bor­ough Rugby Union Club and what we stand for,” he said.
