AFTER a successful run at Scarborough earlier this year, the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships are returning to WA in 2022.

Scarboro Surf Life Saving Club will again hope to host the national event.

Premier Mark McGowan said the Aussies attracted more than 8500 visitors to Scarborough in April, who spent $15.8 million during the competition.

“The Aussies is a perfect example of the type of mass participation event we’re aiming to attract to WA,” he said.

“We’re hoping to see another great turnout and an even bigger boost to the economy when the championships return in 2022.”

An exact location has not been selected for the championships but Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin was hopeful it would return to Scarborough, which also hosted the 2014 event.
