Typically when we think about our health we rarely think about our bones.

Building healthy bones now can mean less fractures and possibly no osteoporosis in the later stages of your life. Many of us have heard of it, but what exactly is osteoporosis? It is a disease that causes bones to become less dense, and more susceptible to fractures and breaks.

This can affect both men and women, but with a higher occurrence in women. However, there is good news! With a proper diet, exercise and lifestyle, osteoporosis can be easily preventable.

Several university studies suggest the most effective way to increase your bone density is to do load bearing exercises two to three times a week.

‘Load bearing’ simply means any exercise where your bones are under stress from a force being applied on them.

For example, a weighted squat will stress the bones in your legs and back.

Similarly, a chest press exercise will stress the bones in your arms. So, what are you waiting for? Come on down to Southside Fitness and check out our wide range of free weights, weighted vests, and racks.

Start working out those bones for a stronger, unbreakable you!
