Dietitian Kara Mccollom talks mid-year nutrition makeover
Don’t wait until January comes around again to revamp your diet. Make some mid-year modifications to ensure sure you’re getting all the right nutrients to stay healthy through the rest of the year.
It’s also a good time to get rid of any nasties in your diet.
MY TOP TIPS FOR A DIET REVAMP ARE:
Top up your daily fruit and vegetable intake Stock up on wholegrain or multi-grain products Use olive oil in small amounts daily Add in beans, nuts, legumes and seeds to your daily diet Seasonal meals with fresh herbs and spices Add probiotic foods in your diet such as kombucha, kefir, pickles, sauerkraut, natural yoghurt Aim for two serves of oily fish (150g each) a week Get your two litres of water a day Cut out white bread, pasta or rice Throw out processed foods like packets of biscuits, cakes or sauces Throw out anything with a long list of additives and preservatives Throw out battered or crumbed frozen meats or poultry Throw out any jars or cans that have been open longer than a week Throw out soft drinks, cordial or fruit juices
EMBRACE ALL THE DELICIOUS, HEALTHY IN-SEASON FOOD AT THE MOMENT AND TRY NEW MEALS AND RECIPES
