Learn the ideal wardrobe staples for winter

Style Magazine - - Contents -

Don’t let your taste in clothing go out the window now the cold is here. Trends this autumn and winter in Europe include graphic black and white, hard-hitting punk, folksy tribal, military styling and an 80s comeback style.

While these trends may be hitting the right note for the fashionistas out there, timeless elegance and style are all the rage for the more mature woman.

Women’s clothing styles are more diverse and accepting of individual preferences than ever.

No longer does a narrow group of top designers dictate how to dress.

By looking past the young models’ svelte bodies, you will find an increasing

selection of fashions fit for the more mature woman.

The lament “there aren’t any nice clothes for older women’” is as out-of-date as the phone booth. HERE ARE SOME CLOTHING STAPLES TO KEEP YOUR WARDROBE WONDERFUL:

◆ A long coat: It sounds obvious, but don’t skimp on a quality coat – you will get a lot of wear out of it.

Keep it in a neutral colour such as black, grey or camel, and dress it up with different waist belts to make it look like a new outfit. ◆ Beautiful boots: Whether they’re knee high, above the knee or ankle boots, get yourself a pair of boots to keep your feet toasty warm and stylish at the same time.

Good-quality leather will last the distance and, if taken care of, will last years. ◆ Scarves: These are a wonderful and quite cheap way to dress up and differentiate an outfit.

There are so many different types of scarves; if you get one big enough, it can double as a cape that can be thrown over your shoulder.

◆ Love your layers: Layers are a wonderful way to fashion your winter woollies.

Probably the most practical of winter fashion trends, putting a long top under a sweater, under a jacket will look exceptional and keep you warm in the cool months.

Also, don’t hesitate to put on tights or sheer stockings under a pair of pants.

No one will know they’re there, but they’ll certainly make a difference.

◆ Wool dress: This little number can be versatile over the cooler months.

You can pop some tights on underneath the dress and layer with a big jacket over the top or slip some heels on for a cute date night outfit.

Alternatively, a nice wool dress can be an effortless addition to your work wardrobe. Make sure you find a nice thick dress. This quality fashion staple will last years if taken care of properly.
