UPCYCLE OR FREECYCLE?

Style Magazine - - Promotion - BY SAUL GOODWIN

We all recycle in some way — throw our cardboard, bottles and cans in the right coloured bin to have them come back again as more cardboard, a new bottle or another can. But do you upcycle or freecycle? Upcycling is essentially repurposing what was an unwanted item into something useful, practical, beautiful, or all three. Freecycling is based on passing on instead of throwing out. Freecycling eliminates goods ever suffering the ignominy of being rubbish, charity or a hand-me-down — items are passed on, re-used and re-loved.

Freecycling and upcycling are creative, enjoyable and satisfying pursuits that also connect and build a community.

Next time you head to the bin to throw something out stop, look at it again, think about what else it could be, or who else may want it.
