The City Heart Fashion Event will showcase Toowoomba as a major fashion shopping precinct on September 9 with more than 40 clothing shops being involved in the event at the Armitage Centre, Empire Theatre.

Organisers of the event, Beau Minnett and Christine Coorey, have revamped the runway event to cater for the city’s growing population with the goal being for people to stop and shop in Toowoomba.

“We have so many unique boutiques in the city and we want to showcase the city as a one-stop shop for all things fashion,” Beau says.

“There has been a growing trend in Toowoomba, across the Darling Downs and south west for the past few years of people shopping online.

“We want to encourage people to come back into the city to shop.

“We are comparable to any big city — we have the infrastructure to cater for all demographics and we want to help promote the city as a shopping precinct.”

More than 30 local models will take to the catwalk for the event, so not only will it showcase local fashion houses but also our local talent pool of models.

“We also have some special guests who will take to the runway — former Toowoomba lads from the band Interim featuring Alec Snow who was known as Matt from Home and Away will take part in the event,” Beau says.

Alec, who decided to leave Home and Away at the start of this year to concentrate on Interim, said although the boys haven’t been on a catwalk before they were looking forward to coming home and giving back to Toowoomba.

“We are thrilled to be coming back home to take part in the City Heart Fashion Event and to be a part of the community that supported us from the start,” Alec says.
